Purple Things That Amuse Mel Mel #3

Hey hey~

Something I stumbed upon at Montage-a-google.

I really should just print this out in colour and stick it on my wall ^__^

Youth Leadership Convocation

Hey hey~

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to attend YLC, a conference recognizing key individuals within AIESEC by providing them direct access to industry training from our national partners. As the first predominantly externally run conferences I have attended in AIESEC, it was interesting to note the difference perspectives that were presented. Even though it was primarily facilitated by professionals, it was really interesting to gain an external perspective that can be applied to our organization, which is something I don’t think we do enough.

Memorable thoughts and moments include:
  • The people! It was great to see so many friendly faces, some of which I had not seen since January National Conference in Perth. It was also fantastic to meet some of the newer members - these guys are tops!
  • The ripple effect - how are our actions having an effect on others?
  • Egg Egg Egg Egg Egg Egg Egg Drop!
  • Opening Night - many thanks to Pen Pen for being my ‘big sister’ for the night.
  • You don’t want to be a hair shampoo!
  • Given that we are all from the same organization, how are we getting teams to collaborate together when we promote intra-team competition?
  • Mission Impossible: playing spies with Nicky and Kate up and down the corridors of uni lodge!
  • VP lego - this time with the introduction shot glasses for the 3 amigos.
  • What is AIESEC’s impact? Do we want to have shallow mass exposure or limited indepth reach?
  • Generational leadership: what role I am playing as a part of Generation Y and how will this affect society?
  • The last night of conference: 13 people, 4 destinations, 6am bed time. Priceless!

Only 4 more weeks until July Conference in Brisvegas!

The miracle of rain...

Hey hey~

Today it is the first time I've experienced rain since being back in Sydney.

Those of you who know me well know that I am someone who is normally easily affected by the weather.

If it is sunny, bright and warm outside I am often in a positive and happy frame of mind.

But if it's cold, cloudy and rainy outside like today, I'm often moody and feeling drained.

However, upon walking in the rain to the MC office today I was reminded of the U.A.E delegation at AP…

The U.A.E delegation was so fun and lively, always willing to have a good time and share things with others. One of their stories that struck me was how it doesn't really rain there.

By 'doesn't really' I mean more along the lines of not of all except for once or twice a year... if you are lucky. Imagine that, only experiencing one day of rain out of the entire 365 days in a year!!

Of course it makes sense: U.A.E, desert, hence no rain, but for me I guess it didn't really click until I heard Maher explaining about the miracle of rain during lunch one day.

Funnily enough, after that very conversation we noticed how the clouds above us began to darken, and as we walked back to sessions it actually started raining. Not just your normal run of the mill rain we are used to here in Sydney mind you, but more along the lines of heavy torrential rain in the truly typical style of tropical climates.

I will never forget the look of sheer wonder and joy on the faces of the U.A.E delegation as they ran outside. Their delight in being able take pleasure in something as simple as dancing in the rain was truly something special. I mean seriously how often do we take rain for granted? We simply don’t dance in the rain enough do we?

It's funny to notice that even though it is raining in Sydney my mood isn't so down as it normally would be in this kind of weather. Perhaps, just maybe, it has something to do with recalling this particular moment from conference and remembering how life is all about different perspectives. After all, you can complain because roses have thorns or you can rejoice because thorns have roses

Close encounters of the canine kind...

Hey hey~

Meet Monty, Ralph's dog.

According to everyone who has met him, he is actually quite a smart dog: able to lock Ralph out of his house on numerous occassions; outrun two people chasing him when he has a handkerchief in his mouth that he has nicked from the washing line; and as of Friday night, he now apparently has the ablility to covert-ops-like sneak off with one my havaianas and chew it to shreds!

What a funny sight it was!! Oh poor havainana, you didn't stand a chance...

On the brightside however, the MC house has now acquired a bug swotter from the remaining flip-flop - kiwi ingenuity? I think so.
