Can Someone Please Recruit Me 30 More Financial Members So We Can Hit 1000?

Hey hey~

An email in my inbox from Jess today that put a smile on my face:

"Hey Mel,
You'd better change that number! Another paying member at QUT today - Julian Kennedy.
- Jess"

970 down.... 30 more to go!

A Time for Decisions...

Hey hey~

So it is more or less certain that in 2008 I shall venture into the unknown realms of China... but what of me after July this year before I start my internship?

That is the very question that I am pondering at the moment.

After July will I:
  • learn Mandarin, get a job to save money, stay in Sydney?
  • learn Mandarin, get a job to save money, move to Singapore?
  • learn Mandarin, get a job to save money, move to Melbourne?
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Not To Be Confused With Having A Maternal Instinct...

Hey hey~

Yesterday for the first time in 2007 I went to pub night to celebrate UNSW and Sydney's first induction meetings.

Halfway through eating my steak as I looked around the massive table that the AIESEC troops had overtaken, I was struck by the strangest feeling...

I can only begin to compare it to how I would imagine a mother would feel after having her grown up children return home for a family feast.

Looking around the room I saw:
  • fresh new faces from induction about to embark on their AIESEC Experience
  • a LCP who I started out with in the same ICX team
  • someone who I had personally recruited at Sydney O Week in 2005
  • familiar faces of dear old friends who had just returned from their overseas experience in Thailand, Egypt and Japan
  • 3 generations of NSW VPs reunited in one location
  • old acquaintances looking for a fresh start in 2007
  • an inspiration who had managed to rally a small group of individuals to get 75 students to attend their first induction meeting
  • a region laying the foundations to make an impact on the rest of the country
This is NOT me being sentimental okay?

Alright, maybe I am...

...just a little bit...

Happy International Women's Day!

Hey hey~

I was just reminded that today is indeed International Women's Day so I thought I would send a quick message to four women in my life who I look up to so much.

Thank you for being such positive role models for me. Each of you have taught me a lot about how to be a better person either through your personal interaction with me or through my observation of your interaction with others. You have proven to me that you can be intelligent, good looking, funny and in control of your life without being typecast into a particular female stereotype.

Kyle, Ausra, Ruth and Mum

Kyle
- Seeing you develop since our days in USyd has been amazing. Your ability to keep yourself constantly active, whether it be uni, AIESEC, family or friends has been impressive dedication to all areas of your life. Your constant strive for excellence in everything you do has kept me motivated to try and push for greater things in my AIESEC work.

Ausra - I truly appreciate our unexpected chats when they happen. Thank you for always asking questions and sharing with me your insights into life. You are someone who I think has so much to offer others. You bring such a wonderful vibe to everyone you are around and I think that is a very special gift.

Ruth - The effort that you put into your work is incredible. You're someone who is able to have so much fun but also achieve results in the process. You are the other half of my Muth burrito - I wouldn't have survived this far without you.

Mum - I know for certain that I don't say thank you often enough for everything you have done to make me the person I am today. You lead through compassion, listening and understanding. These are three things I like to think I have gained from your guidance. I love you!

I am the work in progress that I am today because of your constant advice, friendship and support - thank you!

It Must Be A Thong Thing

Hey hey~

An unfortunate thing happened to me at Queensland's pubnight last night: one of my brown havaianas I was wearing broke! Much hilarity ensued as I tried to walk to the bus with only one functioning havaiana...

Thank goodness for Kezz who allowed me borrow a pair of hers for today for my various SnA travels.

Oh dear... I don't seem to be having much luck with brown havaianas - especially since my last encounter with Monty.

Hmmm maybe this is a sign I should actually buy that purple pair that I have been eyeing...
