The 80's - Ah Those Were The Days...

Hey hey~

Ruthie forwarded me an awesome email about remembering the 80s - it seems appropriate to share some of the memorable things on the list given my recent birthday and all this recent talk about how next year's first year AIESEC members will be born in 1990 (and hence would not be able to relate to any of these things mentioned below!!!)

My Top 15 'Remember the 80s' Memories:

  1. You can sing the rap to the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and can do the Carlton
  2. You owned those lil' Strawberry Shortcake pals scented dolls (or your sister did)
  3. You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey on Blossom
  4. Two words: Hammer Pants
  5. It was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons (TMNT, Foghorn Leghorn, Gummi Bears)
  6. You know the profound meaning of "WAX ON, WAX OFF"
  7. You watched "Fraggle Rock"
  8. You wanted to be a Goonie
  9. You (your sister, cousins) wore a ponytail on the side of your head
  10. You remember the CRAZE, then the BANNING of slap bracelets
  11. You still get the urge to say "NOT" after every sentence
  12. You thought She-Ra (Prince of Power!) and He-Man should hook up
  13. You thought your childhood friends would never leave because you exchanged homemade friendship bracelets
  14. You have ever played with a Skip-It of Elastix
  15. You had or attended a birthday at McDonalds
There were so many more (with photos included) in the email - drop me a line if you would like me to forward you the email.

On The Road Again...

Hey hey~

So as of Sunday Night and even more officially tonight, I am no longer a member of the Un-Security Council (read: the MC House). I, as New Zealand, along with PNG and China were formally dismissed at the last convocation (read: Meatball Global Village + Falafel Corner) and have now moved into Kyle's House (read: Frenches Forest) for the remaining 6 weeks of our term.

It is most certainly one of the significant moments so far in signaling the inevitable end of this unbelievable journey. Nothing like another milestone in the road to get you to reflect...

Top 10 Un-Security Council Moments:
One: Living in a 3 bedroom apartment with only 1 bathroom with 10 people
Two: Sending (and then receiving) a postcard from every different location that an Un-Security Council member visited outside of Sydney - this included Poland, Singapore, Denmark to name a few...
Three: Combining vodka with apple and blackcurrant juice after one Un-Security Council meeting and then calling the NLT with a conversation that went something along the lines of
(Insert Random NLT member's name here): "Hello?"
China: "Hello this is Wolverine..."
PNG: "...I'm Rogue"
India: "...and I'm the professor"
(Insert Random NLT member's name here): .....
(closely followed by sound of dial tone)
Four: Lithuania's vision for a Meatball Global Village (and Falafel Corner) becoming a reality followed by watching the Eurovision Finals
Five: Norway's farewell dinner - who knew he could cook all that time?
Six: Italy's reaction to Russia and New Zealand - simply priceless!
Seven: Three words: Pirate House Party!!
Eight: The rest of the council returning home one night to discover the remains of PNG and Nottingham after the found out the impact of smoking vodka shisha
Nine: The lovely gifts from Un-Security Council guests: money, chocolate, vodka and even a Sunday roast dinner once.
Ten: The week of Jericho - no hot water, no internet, no phone!

Kudos to bottomless cups of large cuppa teas, DVD watching and always wonderful company and fantastic conversation!
